Singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, says he has two wives and four children, all of whom are British citizens.

He also said that he is not a criminal and that he has no idea what the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission found on his laptop.

Naira Marley, who said she was 28, said that aside from storing her songs and music videos, she had never done anything illegal with her laptop.

The artist said this in his affidavit that he made while in EFCC custody and obtained by The Punch.

The artist, who identified himself as a Swedish Yoruba, wrote:

“My name is Azeez Fashola.

“I am married to two women and have four children. They are all British citizens residing in the UK.

“I studied in the UK, starting at Porlock Hall, then moving to Walworth School where I got my GCSEs.

“My GCSE results are English (C), Maths (B) and Science (C).

“I left Walworth School with my qualification and went on to study at Peckham Academy, where I achieved excellent results in business.

“Then I went on to study at Crossways College where I graduated in business law; but at the time I had kids, so I took a break and started making music to this day.”

According to Naira Marley, she did not own a laptop, but was given one for temporary use to upload videos to YouTube.

He said,

“I started making music in 2014 solo (sic) but am now signed to Marathon, a UK based record label.

“I had a contract with Coca-Cola for my song, Issa Goal, which featured Olamide and Lil Kesh.

“I also had deals with Nike to get involved in Nigerian sportswear (sic).

“I have a MacBook laptop, which I borrowed from a friend named Yad Isril in England, because when I was back in Nigeria, I knew I would need a laptop to upload my music videos to YouTube and store my exclusive songs.”

Naira Marley added,

“I have a laptop, but I have no idea what’s on it other than my music videos.”

According to the artist, the aforementioned laptop did not have a password and anyone could access it.

He claimed to have met Isril in high school in England.

“He owns a butcher shop and an electronics store in England. He is a British citizen, although his family is from Iraq.

“I don’t have a personal laptop right now because I don’t need one.

“My admin team handles everything I need to do on a laptop. I just use my iPhone X for everything I do,” she said.

The artist was arrested by the EFCC on May 10, 2019 along with Omoniyi Temidayo (also known as Zlatan Ibile) and three others for alleged advance payment fraud.

After his arrest, the anti-corruption agency filed 11 complaints against him.

The charges under application number FHC/L/178C/19 were filed with the Lagos State High Court.

The artist was subsequently arraigned before Judge Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos on May 20, 2019.

After being arraigned, Judge Oweibo ordered Naira Marley to remain in prison until May 30 to receive a bail application submitted by defense attorney Taiwo Oreagba on behalf of his client.
