Jabra Elite 7 Pro vs. Jabra Elite 85t

Jabra reigns tall and mighty when it comes to the world of noise canceling headphones, and for a lot of good reasons. The company’s headphones are snug and comfortable, sound great for both music and phone calls, are easy to set up and pair with your favorite devices, and the controls are fully customizable.

The Jabra Elite 85t is one of the brand’s flagship models, offering some of the most advanced features and including a fully hybrid noise cancellation system. Building on the many great wins of the 85t, Jabra has introduced the Elite 7 Pro. Touting a smaller, lighter design with bone conduction microphones for the best voice pickup capabilities, the Elite 7 Pro is another great offering from Jabra. .

But between the Elite 7 Pro and the Elite 85t, which is the better set of Jabra headphones? As experts and audio connoisseurs, we’ve broken down each pair based on criteria like design, controls, sound and call quality, and price. Read which buds we like best.

Design, comfort and controls

Jabra Elite 7 Pro alongside Jabra Elite 85t and Elite 75t.

Compared to the Elite 85t, the Elite 7 Pro is smaller and lighter than the 85t. Jabra’s signature multi-function buttons get a new teardrop shape with the Elite 7 Pro, with the buttons now taking up most of the outer button area.

Let’s be clear: we think the Elite 7 Pro is some of the most comfortable headphones you can buy right now. Thanks to redesigned ear tips and a less bulky fit (compared to the Elite 85t), the Elite 7 Pro stays comfortable through long listening sessions and calls with almost no discomfort. Being a bit bigger and heavier overall, the Elite 85t doesn’t fit quite as comfortably, and the oval ear cups make it difficult to rotate the earcups to find the best fit for your ears.

The charging cases for the Elite 7 Pro and Elite 85t offer wireless charging and are quite easy to transport. In the case of the Elite 7 Pro, the USB-C port is on the front. Although not as aesthetically pleasing, it is much more practical when it comes to quickly connecting your USB cable to recharge.

As for how you control the headset, Jabra offers some of the best buttons on the market. Single, double, and triple presses, along with a long command, let you play/pause music, make phone calls, interact with voice assistants, and turn ANC on and off. If you’re not a fan of the default button mapping on either pair of headphones, you can access the Jabra Sound+ app (for iOS and Android devices) to remap the commands to your liking.

One advantage the Elite 85t had over the Elite 7 Pro was its ability to pair your headphones with more than one Bluetooth device at a time, making it easy to switch gear in a flash. When the Elite 7 Pro launched, they lacked this Bluetooth multipoint connection, but a recent firmware update fixed this omission, putting the two earbuds on a level playing field. See the full list of updates on the Jabra website.

As for color options, the Elite 7 Pro is only available in Titanium Black. You can buy the Elite 85t in Titanium Black, Copper Black, and Golden Beige.

While the Elite 85t can easily connect to multiple devices at the same time, we rated the Elite 7 Pro based on fit and overall comfort.

Endurance

Thanks to the fully enclosed design of the Elite 7 Pro, the buttons are almost completely waterproof, giving them an IP57 rating. Due to the semi-open design of the Elite 85t, these buds are only IPX4 rated, but don’t let that put you off. The Elite 85t can handle wetter weather, though we wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for training, mainly due to its added bulk.

Thanks to a higher protection rating and tighter fit, the Elite 7 Pro is more durable and more ergonomic than both sets of headphones.

Battery duration

Jabra claims the Elite 7 Pro offers up to eight hours of battery life on a single charge (with ANC enabled), with up to 30 hours of total playtime with the charging case. When you place the buds in the charging case, five minutes of re-pressing them will give you an extra hour of battery life.

In our tests of the Elite 7 Pro, our left button lasted up to a full eight hours, while the right button only lasted 7.5 hours. We assume this is because the right earbud was connected and paired first during setup, making it the “main” earbud.

Compared to the Elite 7 Pro, the Elite 85t lags a bit behind when it comes to battery life. For example, you’ll only get seven hours of battery life on both earbuds with ANC off, and just 5.5 hours with ANC on. As for power on the go, the charging case will give you up to 24 hours of extra performance, about nine less hours than the Elite 7 Pro case. You’ll also need to charge the earphones for an additional ten minutes (compared to the Elite 7 Pro) to get a full additional hour of performance.

Sound and call quality

A man with the Jabra Elite 7 Pro.

Both the Jabra Elite 7 Pro and the Elite 85t offer excellent sound quality. Before the Elite 7 Pro came out, the Elite 85t was one of the best noise-cancelling headphones you could find (at least in our opinion). Compared to older Elite models, especially Jabra’s standard 75t and Elite Active setup, the Elite 85t controls the powerful low-end offered by the regular 75t, while delivering impressive accuracy throughout the EQ.

What we’re left with is a set of headphones that prioritize a rich soundstage over volume and relentless bass. On that note, if you’re looking for a bit louder sound, you can dial in the Jabra Sound+ app to adjust the equalizer to your preference.

The Elite 85t is also great for making and receiving phone calls. In our headset tests, voices on both ends of calls were clear and articulate, with little to no interference from ambient noise.

We had a hard time comparing the sound and call quality of the Elite 7 Pro and the Elite 85t. The Elite 7 Pro really lives up to the audio accolades of the Elite 85t, offering detailed sound setup and customization via the Sound+ app. Listening closely, we think the 85t offers a little more details in the general equalizer, but the leg lift is nothing significant.

That being said, the Elite 7 Pro takes the prize when it comes to call quality. Thanks to the inclusion of bone conduction microphones, voice recording is better than previous Jabra headsets. In fact, we think the Elite 7 Pro is one of the best headphones for those who spend a lot of time making and receiving calls.

Noise cancellation and transparency

The Elite 85t were the first Jabra headphones to include a hybrid ANC system, thanks to the addition of tracking and feedback microphones that pick up unwanted sounds and then filter them out (the Elite 75t and Active 75t only received ANC via an update to Jabra). firmware).

From the ground up, the Elite 7 Pro uses the same hybrid ANC system as the Elite 85t, but with slightly better noise-canceling capabilities. We think this is due to the Elite 7 Pro’s fully enclosed design, which creates a tighter shield against ambient sounds. With the Elite 85t’s semi-open design, outside noise is a little easier to hear and a little harder to cancel.

Switching between HearThrough and ANC modes with both models is quick and easy, especially compared to today’s flagship ANC devices like the Sony WF-1000XM4 and AirPods Pro. With a pair of Jabra earphones, everything all you have to do is press the left earbud once. No long or multiple presses are required.

As for general ANC, you can also use the Sound+ app to adjust the strength of your noise cancellation (with both sets of headphones).

Since the Elite 7 Pro is a bit stricter at canceling out unwanted noise, we’ll award listeners another point.

price and guarantee

Right now you can buy the Jabra Elite 7 Pro for $199. The Elite 85t currently retails for $189 on Amazon, but it could be more expensive depending on where you shop. Both bud kits also come with a two-year warranty (registration required).

Conclusion

Jabra Elite 7 Pro.

It’s no secret: we think the Jabra Elite 7 Pro is the superior set of Jabra headsets. That’s not to say we don’t think the Elite 85t is exceptional too. The latter still offers incredible performance and powerful noise cancellation, but these are great features and technologies that the Elite 7 Pro has borrowed and improved upon.

The Elite 7 Pro fits great, sounds great, and offers better battery life compared to the Elite 85t. If money came out of our pockets, the Elite 7 Pro is the Jabra headset we’d go home with.
