How many of us can truly say that we are living our childhood dream? Well, Jacques Turcotte certainly can! Hunting, fishing and adventures in nature, this man turned his passion into a profession. And now he is part of the ninth season of Alone on the History Channel.

Here is everything you need to know about this daring man in this “Jacques Turcotte Bija”.

Jacques Turcotte on History TV alone

History Channel’s Alone returned for its ninth installment on May 26, 2022, and as always saw a group of contestants, including Jacques Turcotte, in an “undisclosed remote location”, later revealed to be Labrador, Canada.

Also, as always, the survivors were only allowed to take 10 items. And as for our star, Jacques started with 10 items: a sleeping bag, hatchet, knife, multi-tool, crowbar, bow and arrow, fishing line, line and hooks, a 2-liter pot, and emergency rations.

Jacques was joined this season by his colleagues: Adam Riley, Teimojin Tan, Jessie Krebs, Juan Pablo Quinonez, Karin Lee, Terry Burns, Tom Garstang, Benji Hill and Igor Limansky.

An adventurer at heart, Jacques began watching Alone as a child. “It was an escape from the confusion of my childhood experiences, I never thought I would be on the show,” he explained.

Jacques appears to have been teased “mercilessly” for his lifestyle choices. He got into fights, had food thrown at him and was even nicknamed “Tree F***er”. But now that he thinks about it, he had to be catapulted to be on this show. He learned the important lesson of “ignoring what people say and doing what makes you happy, my friends.”

Jacques Turcotte’s work

Jacques Turcotte described himself as “adventurer, hiker, nature lover, photographer, skier and carpenter”.

As of 2022, he has worked as a Senior Glacier Guide at Above & Beyond Alaska for over 3 years, as an Outdoor Educator at High Trails Outdoor Science School for nearly 4 years, and as a Sales Specialist at REI for over 5 years.

Looking back, Jacques has loved the outdoors for as long as he can remember. He would hunt and fish and immerse himself in the world of bushcraft, unlike other boys his age. Besides, he even excelled in school, but being outdoors always came first.

So, fresh out of school, Jacques then headed west where he spent 3 months traveling through the Rocky Mountains, hiking off the beaten track, whitewater rafting, canyoning, and rock climbing. And this trip made him realize how much he wanted this life, not just as a hobby, but as a whole way of life, a source of income and a home.

So a determined Jacques returned east, bought an old yellow school bus, and made it his secluded home. From there, he began a wilderness survival and teaching career in California and Utah. But it wasn’t until 2019 that he moved to the isolated town of Juneau, Alaska, and became famous.

His childhood dream came true. But that’s not all, his adventures in the last 5 years have taught him to understand what is most important in his life. She learned what true suffering means, the power of kindness and love, and how to thrive in wild landscapes.

Regarding his education, he attended Seekonk High School.
