But despite her triumph, Jaleesa was strictly forbidden from revealing that she had won. Later, in an interview with NJ.com, Jaleesa revealed that she wasn’t allowed to tell anyone, not even her husband, and that was the hardest part of it all.
When a recruiter from the Food Network approached her about the contest via Instagram, she initially thought it was a scam. But even when she realized she wasn’t, there was much to consider: Who would run the store with her husband? Who will take care of the children, the youngest is only 8 weeks old? – And other things.
Jaleese Mason’s Career
Jaleesa Mason initially dreamed of being a plastic surgeon. But during high school, she realized that the dreams she had of becoming a plastic surgeon represented a reality that she was less interested in. Then one day someone recommended that she just do what she likes and she thought of baking. She only then thought of it as a career choice.
Jaleesa then enrolled in the pastry chef program at the Culinary Institute of America, and after Maison Kayser, she worked in specialty bakeries in the area, most notably Carlo’s Bake Shop, to gain more experience and further hone her decorating skills. Then in 2016, Mo and Jay Pastry succeeded. He started out as a wholesaler selling cakes to numerous coffee shops in New York and New Jersey.

With the onset of the COVID pandemic, they opened a store to make up for the drop in sales at their companies. And while both businesses suffered in that time, Mo & Jay Pastry in particular has seen an increase in traffic and sales since its appearance on the Food Network.

After graduating in 2014, Jaleesa Mason went on to work as a pastry chef at Maison Kayser, a bakery and cafe with locations throughout Manhattan. She developed a close mentoring relationship with the executive pastry chef. There she also met her future husband, Mohamad Al Kassem, who was the head chef there.
Fast forward to today, they seemed happily married and on the run too. Mo & Jay’s Pastry together. The couple are also parents to two children, Olive and Charlie. The younger Olive was born sometime in 2021 and Charlie Al Kassem was born on exactly January 26, 2018. Jaleesa said in an interview that her children were literally born and raised in her bakery. That’s why they say Mo & Jay has been a family affair since it opened its doors in November 2020.
The mother of two says they had no childcare until a month ago (as of May 2022). As a result, 4-year-old Charlie was her resident taste tester. For her birthday in January 2022, Jaleesa made sure to receive a custom Megalodon shark cake inspired by the Monster Jam truck.
