Meet Jeremy Brown, the Chicago man who died in a restaurant shooting
Chicago man Jeremy Brown was shot to death in the 11600 block of South Halsted Street shortly after 11 a.m. Carlishia Hood, another Chicago woman, got into an argument at the restaurant with Jeremy, according to leaked video.
Carlish’s 14-year-old son stayed in the car so she could make the short trip while waiting in line for the Maxwell Street Express in Chicago. Jeremy and his girlfriend walked into the restaurant while she was waiting in line and an argument broke out between Carlishia and Jeremy.
Since neither party knew the other, the dispute turned physical, with Jeremy being shown on film punching Mrs. Hood repeatedly over the head. Brown’s girlfriend standing near her laughed and supported the other half of her, prompting Carlisha to text her son to come in with a gun she can carry.
When the teen shot Jeremy in the back at the restaurant, the victim ran away. Jeremy was shot in the back once again after Carlishia yelled at her son that he was supposed to “go after the victim and kill him.”
The suspects pulled up to the crime scene in a Lincoln Nautilus in late-night video of the incident. Carlishia got out of the vehicle and entered the Maxwell Street Food Express wearing a pink suit. Additionally, a white hoodie and shorts were seen on Carlishie Hood’s son in surveillance footage.
Carlishia and her son had never been arrested before. A separate video shows Jeremy Brown beating Carlisha before shots were fired.
Carlishia’s son reportedly pointed the gun at the victim and opened fire, forcing Jeremy to flee the scene. Jeremy was allegedly followed and shot by Carlishia’s son.
Jeremy was identified at the scene as having died of two gunshot wounds. Carlishia allegedly tried to grab the gun from her son’s hand after the first shooting, but he allegedly pushed her away and continued to grab the firearm.
Is shooter Jeremy Brown facing murder charges?
At first, Carlishia Hood, who “shot” Jeremy Brown, and her 14-year-old self turned themselves in to local authorities on June 21, 2023. They were originally charged with murder. An indictment was filed against the mother for a criminal offense of assisting in the delinquency of a minor. Due to her youth, her son, whose name has not been revealed, will soon appear before a juvenile court.
However, NBC Chicago reported that prosecutors said the murder charges against Carlishia and her 14-year-old son have been dropped. According to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, it reviewed the evidence in the case against Carlishia Hood and her 14-year-old son, and “in light of the evidence that has emerged” sought to dismiss all charges.
“Based on the facts, evidence and the law, we cannot meet our burden of proof in prosecuting these cases,” the office said in a statement.
