Joel Schumacher, the director of both Batman and the lost Generation, died of cancer at the age of 80 years, said Monday the leaders of its communication. The one who had begun his career as a costume designer, before becoming a big name in Hollywood, is “peacefully” died in New York, “after a struggle of a year against cancer,” they stated in a press release.

Schumacher had started as a costume designer in the 1970s, on films such as Woody and the robots (1973). St Elmo’s Fire (1985) was the first success of Schumacher as a director. Followed lost Generation (1987) and The Experience prohibited (1990), before he launches into the Batman for Warner Bros. Schumacher has to its credit of having helped to launch careers, such as those of Matthew McConaughey and Colin Farrell.
