There have been many great action franchises since the turn of the century, but two of the best tell the stories of master assassins. John Wick and Jason Bourne have been defining figures in our recent pop culture landscape, though their series hardly overlap. However, given the prominence of both characters in the life of any action movie fan, it’s natural to wonder what could happen if these two collided with each other. It would certainly be a long and bloody battle, but this is what we think will come out on top.
Strong Shot: Wick
Both John Wick and Jason Bourne are expert marksmen, but we have to give Wick this one. The gun is his gun and he regularly destroys people with deadly precision. for example in John Wick: Chapter 4A great scene, he uses his gun, plus some expert driving skills, to take down a group of assassins in the center of Paris.
Each Wick movie has been characterized in part by his ability to destroy one enemy after another with nothing more than a weapon to defend himself with. Jason Bourne is definitely a better shot than most, but he doesn’t have the same skill as Wick in this department.
Strength: Bourne
This is a bit awkward, partly because Wick is older in his movies than Bourne is in his. Even so, it seems likely that Bourne has the upper hand here.
Many more of Bourne’s fights are melee and melee, and his abilities are so innate that he can use them without even realizing he has them. Wick, by contrast, can seem visibly tired at times, and while he tends to find an advantage in physical combat, he often relies on weapons when he’s outmatched.
Intelligence: Bourne
As important as physical prowess is, the most important element of any battle may ultimately be who is the smartest. Both Wick and Bourne certainly have a lot of intelligence, but Wick definitely plans a bit less carefully than Bourne.
Instead, he mostly just finds a good weapon and walks into a room full of hostile people, hoping for the best. Bourne definitely makes the mistakes share of him, but he’s basically an intelligence officer and has the analytical chops to handle just about any situation.
Willpower: Fuse
While both are strong-willed characters, it’s hard to argue with Wick’s sheer stamina. He faces an often incredible number of enemies and almost always seems to come out unscathed.
He just has that will to survive that makes him very hard to kill. The same could definitely be said for Bourne, but it looks like Wick would ultimately survive here, all things being equal. Bourne may want to hang in there, but he’s not as superhuman as Wick usually makes him out to be.
Winner: Wick
It’s definitely going to be a close fight, but it’s hard to imagine Wick not walking away with his life. Given his superior skill with weapons and his will to survive, the most likely scenario is that he will find a way to win some sort of protracted showdown with Bourne.
Bourne may have the edge in creativity, but ultimately Wick is smart and strong enough to blunt Bourne’s advantage. It would be a fight that would last forever, but in the end Baba Yaga would emerge victorious.
