Lawrence David Emanuel is the father of Jordan Emanuel. He was born to his parents Bernice Kelly Jordan Emanuel and Lawrence (Larry) Emanuel in January 1960. So David is currently 63 years old.
Bernice grew up in Seaboard as the youngest of 10 children, she had 5 brothers ~ Douglas, Samuel, David, Calvin and Carl and 4 sisters ~ Beatrice, Mary, Betty and Dorothy. She received her initial education from the Northampton County Public Schools. She graduated from Coates High School in Seaboard, NC in 1950. She continued her education and graduated from North Carolina College (now North Carolina Central University or NCCU) in Durham, NC in 1954 with a degree in business education.
Bernice also attended New York University (NYU) for additional undergraduate and graduate business courses.
After graduating in 1954, Bernice began her teaching career at Anne Chesnutt High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina. In 1955 she fell in love with Lawrence C. Emanuel (Larry) and they were married on June 9, 1957 in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. They were an itinerant military family with posts at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Wiesbaden, Germany, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Asmara, Ethiopia, Fort Lee, Virginia, and settled in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Bernice and Larry were married for 52 years until he passed away on November 1, 2009. Larry was a retired lieutenant colonel.
David is one of two children. He has a sister named Dorothy Lynne.
Speaking of Jordan’s father, David has been the founder of Develop Empowerment since 2016. He has also worked at APR Energy as Director of Human Resources, CIT Group as Senior Vice President, and AEG as Vice President of Human Resources. Paula Birdsong Emanuel is the mother of Jordan Emanuel. Before spending 13 years in Basking Ridge, Paula spent time in Maryland and Atlanta, Georgia, where Carrie and Ritholiz Birdsong were born. Paula graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia in 1979. She received her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Howard University in 1984.
She then attended Johns Hopkins University graduating with a degree in biomedical engineering in 1995. Paula was an engineer with Murray Hill-based Lucent Technologies. She belonged to the Hun PTA. Paula also enjoyed watching Atlanta sports, shopping online, watching the Home Shopping Network, and entertaining at her home.
Sadly, Paula passed away on June 13, 2009. On the eighth anniversary of Paula’s death, Jordan shared something about her late mother on her Facebook page. She wrote: “I lost my mom 8 years ago today when she was 17. I didn’t appreciate her when she was a teenager… I took her for granted and we fought like hell. The irony is that as a woman I appreciate her so much more now, not even as a mother, but as a person. She was absurdly smart, she studied biomedical engineering at Howard and Johns Hopkins, she was fierce, fearless, beautiful, and she was my mother.”
