Cause of death of Jorge Bacardi
On September 23, 2020, Jorge Bacardi passed away suddenly at his home in Lyford Cay, a gated community in the Bahamas. He was 76 years old at the time of his death. Jorge is survived by his wife Leslie Bacardi and sister Carmen.
His brothers Joaquin and Alberto have passed away. The CEO of Bacardi revealed that even years after Jorge’s lung transplant, he had a lung capacity of 128% and could still participate in outdoor activities. Jorge expressed gratitude towards the person who saved his life multiple times, including Eric and Grace Gregory, acquaintances who had a son named Christopher with whom Jorge enjoyed fishing trips and sent pictures to their family. Christopher even wrote Jorge’s obituary which showcased how he embraced his new life after receiving a lung transplant.
The Gabriel Care Home at Mayo Clinic honors Christopher and reminds us of the incredible challenges that Jorge Bacardi overcame. Nursing homes provide comfortable accommodations for cancer patients or people going through organ transplants along with their caregivers.
A little information about Jorge Bacardi
Jorge persevered despite his weak lungs and lived to be 40 years old, an age considered remarkable by medical professionals. Originally believed to be suffering from a disease, Jorge was later diagnosed with primary biliary dyskinesia, a congenital disorder, in the late 1990s. With no treatment options available, Jorge’s condition deteriorated and he eventually applied for a lung transplant. Fortunately, he received a matching set of lungs from organ donor Christopher Mark Gregory who had died suddenly at the age of 19 due to a brain aneurysm.
On March 27, 2008, Jorge underwent a seven-hour lung transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville after battling unhealthy lungs for 64 years. The surgery was successful and Jorge could breathe with healthy lungs for the first time.
