TLC’s new dating show Match Me Abroad recently premiered on May 14. The series is about seven single men who are looking for love outside of the US due to their poor love history in their home country. They are aided by three matchmakers. Although Juan’s clients include Nathaly, Susan and Chad, it is his responsibility to find them partners in Colombia. Nathaly is a 25-year-old Californian whose mother is a strict Sri Lankan; Susan is a 52-year-old New Yorker who no longer dates in New York; and then there’s Chad, a 38-year-old man from Tennessee who has been engaged three times and believes that Colombian women take marriage more seriously than American women.
In the trailer, Juan’s client Susan said: “Going out in the US makes me tired. My picker is broken, have someone pick for me,” while another customer, Chad, said: “I’ve been engaged three times. All three failed. I think Colombian women respect marriage more than American women.”
In short, Juan’s clients are visibly frustrated with his love life. Will Juan make them happy by finding someone they are looking for?
Colombian matchmaker and life coach Juan Manuel Niño admitted in an interview that his job is not always easy. But he thinks the challenges are worth it when he makes a successful match.
“As a matchmaker, the more challenging, the greater the rewards,” Juan said.
