Justice Norman in the Race for Survival: Alaska
USA Network’s new Race to Survive Alaska hit screens on April 3, 2023 and saw eight teams of two, including Justice Norman and Hakim Isler, battle it out in the Alaskan wilderness for a chance to win $500,000. These teams participated in six intense races over 40 days without planes, trains or cars to help them get around. In fact, they had to endure over 100 miles of inhospitable and previously unexplored terrain on their own legs with only what they could carry.
It also meant that Justice had to use his primitive survival skills to get his own food, water, and shelter. Plus, being on Alaska’s dangerous coast, marked by vast mountain ranges, ancient glaciers, sweltering rainforests, and menacing wildlife, certainly didn’t make things any easier.
So Justice, who only trained in martial arts, had trouble navigating the world of survival. But to his relief, his partner, Hakim, a seasoned veteran of the Iraq war and former member of the Army’s special operations community, had more than just experience in this matter. In fact, Hakim has even appeared in other survival series like Naked and Afraid (2014 and 2014), Kicking & Screaming, and Ed Safford: First Man Out.
Justice and Hakim were joined in the first season of Race to Survive Alaska by their co-stars Jeff and Hunter Leininger (father and son duo), Robin Moore and Elizabeth Killham (friends and adventurers), Brett Gatten and Esther Sanderlin (Alaskan Hunters). , Max Djenohan and Christian Junkar (reality star and friends), Cason and Bella Crane (siblings), and Oliver and Wilson Hoogendorn (siblings).

Also, thanks to his love for martial arts, he met his partner Hakim. The two met in a course where Justice was teaching Hakim how to perceive things without using his eyes. Hakim also appears to be a martial arts enthusiast and holds a fourth degree black belt in To-Shin Do under Hall of Fame Stephen K. Hayes black belt and FCS Kali Instructor.
After Hakim’s time in the military, he even started his own consulting firm called The SOIL Foundation, where he taught PTSD veterans primitive survival skills. In addition, he also wrote the book Modern Hand-to-Hand Combat, where he provides step-by-step instructions on how to effectively deal with life-and-death situations through moves and principles that still apply today.
