In a 1977 article found on Newspapers.com, Micki discussed her daughter, Katie. The article claims that Jerry Springer was the mayor of Cincinnati at the time.
“I think it’s important, at least for me, to be home with Katie in her early years,” Micki told the newspaper. “I did this of my own free will because of those beliefs. But that doesn’t mean I won’t change and do things differently later on.” That article said that Katie “has been blind since birth, diagnosed as inoperable, but there are recent indications that she has some visual ability, though the degree is a stranger.”
“One of the things that interests me most now, because of Katie’s disability, is telling the public how great the Cincinnati Public Schools program for the visually impaired really is,” Micki told the Enquirer. “Katie is enrolled in what is called early childhood education for children with disabilities. Every Monday and Thursday there are home visits from the instructors of this department”.
