So John wasn’t surprised when Kelly made it to the Olympics for her last chance. “When she did her last ride in St. Moritz, I knew he was going to put on a great performance,” John revealed to NJ. “One thing about her playing high school basketball, if you were an opposing player, you didn’t want to see her on the line with a minute left. She would ask me why she would shake the ball out of the hoop in the middle of the game and just look at me. But she would understand the importance of the event and it would eventually happen.”

John Curtis’s sports background was one of the reasons why his daughter started playing sports at an early age. John and his wife were very supportive when Kelly switched from one sport to another.
Kelly started out as a track athlete when she was in high school and excelled at it. His coach in Springfield suggested that he try luge, which he initially thought was a joke, but he joined in 2013.
From there he discovered the skeleton and liked it.
John shared with NJ.com: “She has made it to number three on the number three women’s bobsled team in the country and has competed in several events, and I think she could be in the Olympics. She then said ‘I think I’m going to stop bobsledding and start training for skeleton’.
Although John was unfamiliar with the sport, he knew he was “falling head over heels.” He added: “So his mother and I wished him well and told him to keep chasing his dream.”

In addition, John was also a Director of the Fields & Dreams Foundation at CSTV (2005-2009). He worked for Preps On The Net for less than a month. And in November 2011, he took on a consulting role at National Interscholastic Athletic Development LLC. Ivan has been retired since 2015.
John earned a BS in Physical Education from Springfield College in 1971 and an MS in Guidance and Human Services from Springfield College in 1973. He was selected 214th overall by the NY Jets in the ’71 NFL Draft.
