In a terrifying incident, a Polish tour company claims killer whales, also known as orcas, sank a yacht off the coast of Morocco, CBS News reported. According to the report, the incident occurred on Tuesday while the yacht was sailing through the Straits of Gibraltar. The yacht sank near the entrance to the Tangier-Med port, located nearly 30 miles northeast of Tangier along the Strait of Gibraltar.
The Warsaw-based Morskie Mile travel agency, which operated the yacht, shared that the yacht approached the yacht and “hit the rudder fin for 45 minutes, causing extensive damage and leaks.”
“This yacht has been the most beautiful thing in sea sailing for all of us. Long-lasting friendships have been made on board,” said Morskie.
The crew members escaped unharmed. After the yacht sank, a search and rescue team as well as the Moroccan navy tried to salvage her remains but were unsuccessful.

Interestingly, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred. According to research group GTOA, which studies orcas in the Gibraltar region, deliberate killer whale attacks on vessels near the coasts of Spain and Portugal have more than tripled in the past two years.
Speaking to CBS News, Andrew W. Trites, professor and director of marine mammal research at the University of British Columbia, weighed in on the matter in May.
“Nobody knows why this is happening. My idea, or what anyone would tell you, is informed speculation. It’s a complete mystery, unprecedented,” Andrew said.
In June of this year, a sailing team taking part in an international race recounted a terrifying encounter with multiple killer whales during their trip across the Atlantic Ocean west of Gibraltar.
