Meet Kimbrady Carriker, the suspect in the Philadelphia mass shooting
On the eve of Independence Day 2023, in the area of 56th Street and Chester Avenue in the southwest of the city, the suspect shot people indiscriminately with an automatic rifle. After people called 911 to report the shooting and others alerted officers, they found the shooting victims at the scene and as they began to put the victims in their cars, they heard more gunshots. Then officers ran to the sound and found Kimbrady Carriker.
According to officers, they had to chase down and corner Kimbrady in an alley in the 1600 block of Frazier Street. He was wearing a bulletproof vest and had several magazines, a police scanner, an AR-style rifle, and a pistol. However, they were unable to establish a connection between the victims and the shooter, and investigators do not know the motive for the shooting.
As for the victims, reports say that a 2-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy were injured by gunshots, and another 2-year-old boy and a 33-year-old woman were injured by flying glass.
“What happened in our Kingsessing neighborhood last night was unimaginably disgusting and horrible,” Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said at a news conference.
On the other hand, Kimbrady’s neighbors were shocked that he was accused of such violence. “He talks to everyone. He helps everyone,” said a neighbor. “If you’re parked on the curb and a cop drives by, he’ll knock on your door and tell you he’s going to give you a ticket or whatever.”

When Kimbrady wasn’t working, he liked to write about gun rights and anti-violence programs on Facebook (now deleted). His FB profile picture shows Keanu Reeves in the movie “The Matrix” and his main post, the day before the mass shooting, was a YouTube video showing a gun.
He also recently shared an article about the Philadelphia Anti-Violence Initiative. “Found this on NewsBreak: Philly anti-violence grant program shows promising results, despite some flaws, new evaluation shows,” Carriker wrote in the post.
He clearly hated Joe Biden and his gun rights movement and is a huge supporter of Donald Trump.
He even shared a video of Biden and wrote: “This is all of you, the president. We said that 2A is defending our rights. Now God save the queen as she tries to take our weapons.” Sharing another video with the caption: “Biden blushes in coat, in latest gun return speech,” he wrote, “I told you he wants your rights. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN SAYS BIDEN”.
In addition, he has spoken out about the Black Lives Matter movement and supported the workers who protested in the July 2020 Strike for Black Lives.
That said, Kimbrady certainly doesn’t have the best history of championing the cause. Prior to the 2023 mass murder charge, he had faced lesser drug and weapons charges since 2003, which led to a suspended sentence.

Kimbrady Carriker was likely single in 2023.
But from 2021 to 2022, he lived with Tina Rossette, then 47, and her daughter Cianna Rosette, then 22, who described their relationship as just roommates.
Tina said Kimbrady is “really smart, smart, creative” and interested in computers. “She didn’t even know she had a gun,” she said, before adding that she had an “aggressive approach to some things in life.”
On the other hand, Cianni admitted that Kimbrady showed her the gun. She also revealed that she turned down Kimbrady for a romantic relationship and that he was in a “dark place.”
