Fans Toy story franchises already know that Buzz Lightyear has traveled to infinity and beyond, but now they’ll finally get to see some of the adventures that brought the space ranger into the Pixar universe.
Disney released the first trailer for Light year, a full-length animated film that promises to tell the “real story” behind the hero who inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy line from the Toy Story movies. Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Chris Evans will voice Buzz in the film, which looks to chronicle the character’s expedition into space in search of, well… we don’t know yet.
But there will be action, and humor, and even an alien, judging by the first glance in the film.
A light year | Announcement after announcement
Described as “the definitive origin story of the hero that inspired the toy,” the film is likely to cause a stir in the short term, given that the film is basically a real-life version of a film that previously only existed in Toy. The universe of the story. That (previously fictional) movie inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy line in the Toy Story movies, and the toy version of Buzz Lightyear was voiced by Tim Allen in those movies. Light yearhowever, Evans will be voicing the “real” Buzz Lightyear.

Fortunately, the world has until June 17, 2022 — when Light year arrives in theaters — that it all makes sense.

Along with choosing Evans to star in the film, Disney and Pixar announced it Light year will be directed by award-winning director Angus MacLane, who co-directed the 2016 film. Finding Dory.
Release date for June 2022 Light year is bringing the Toy Story franchise — or in this case, its spin-off — back to theaters almost exactly three years after the last installment premiered. Toy story 4 was a critical and commercial hit when it premiered in June 2019, and star Tom Hanks and others reported that it would likely be the last film in the original film franchise. However, Pixar and Disney have left the door open for more Toy Story movies. Disney first announced plans for Light year during the 2020 Investor Event.
