A turtle that went missing three and a half years ago has finally been reunited with its owners with the help of Florida Wildlife Rescue staff.

The animal shelter shared the heartwarming story on Facebook, stating, “Truly an amazing story, just goes to show you never lose hope!”
The organization further added: “She had been missing for 3 1/2 years and was found 5 miles away from where she originally fled. She is in a bit of a bad shape because she spent so many cold winters here without heating, but she will be fine and we recommended a trip to the vet. What a happy ending! We are so happy that we were able to help reunite her with her family!”
The turtle was found wandering in Putnam County, Florida and was immediately taken to the Florida Wildlife Service. The turtles’ owners were finally found after a 24-hour search on social media, Newsweek reports.
The media further reported that Gabby from the Florida animal shelter was able to identify the turtle by comparing its markings to those in a picture shared by its owners on social media in April 2020, when it first went missing. “I compared recognizable features, like holes in the shell from an old dog bite when she was little, and some other marks,” Gabby told Newsweek.
