Love Island fans left stunned as Maya Jama suffers huge final blunder

LOVE Island fans were left baffled tonight as Maya Jama suffered a major slip-up just moments before announcing the winner.

The presenter, 28, told viewers they were about to see Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki’s best bits, but a video of Jess Harding and Sammy Root played instead.

The confusion continued after Maya interviewed winners Sammy and Jess.

The ITV star told the couple they were about to see clips of their ‘best bits’ in the villa – despite the clip already having played out.

Those watching tonight’s show at home rushed to comment on how the videos played in the wrong order, with one person saying: “Why are ppl saying they didn’t show whit & loch’a best bits when they literally did??? before their interview.”

A second added: “Nah they’re showing the wrong VTs!”

While a third wrote: “Why are people saying Whitney and lochans best bits got shown before they sat on the couch? Are you guys okay??”

Another person tried to clear things up: “Nobody is getting fired there is no conspiracy, Maya just got it wrong.”

Replying to a fan who called her “goals” because “she’s so smooth, even when it does wrong on live TV”, Maya added: “Guysss live tv is a madness but we made it in the end.

“At least you know it’s really live!”

ITV were quick to react, tweeting: “Guys live television is really difficult please be nice.”

And fans rushed to defend Maya, saying “as if it’s her pressing the button for the videos – it’s the producers’ job!”

Another viewer blamed it on a behind the scenes mistake, saying: “Did you have a production slip up? Whitney and Lochan’s ‘best bits’ was actually Jess and Sammy?”

The Bristol-born star has been a huge hit with fans she took over from Laura Whitmore, 38.

The Sun previously revealed she has impressed ITV bosses in her first year fronting the dating show’s winter and summer editions and spin-off Aftersun – and is set for a £750,000 pay day to stay on as presenter.

Tonight’s final saw Jess and Sammy named the winning couple – in a very surprising turn of events.

The couple appeared shocked and hugged each other tightly upon hearing they had won the £50,000 prize.

They beat Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki in the final two, while Tyrique Hyde and Ella Thomas came in third and Molly Marsh and Zachariah Noble placed fourth.

Maya hosted the live final from the ITV2 show’s Mallorcan villa while a cheering audience watched on.

Jess and Sammy laughingly answered “no” when asked if they expected to win.

Whitney and Lochan – who were the bookies’ favourites to win – called the victorious pair “our winners” and said they were “over the moon” for them.
