The ICC World Cup is the largest and most prestigious cricket tournament held every four years. The best cricket teams compete in the World Cup for the coveted title. To date, only six national teams have won the World Cup, and Australia is the team that has won the most times (5).
The tournament follows an international competition format lasting one day. It consists of 50 plays for two teams and matches that last for a day. ODI games fall between the Test and Twenty20 formats in terms of entertainment and demonstration of skill. ODI matches are slower than T20 but much more intense than Test matches.
The World Cup has seen a number of thrilling matches that ended with razor-sharp margins and also absolute defeats by three-digit margins. However, with the increase in competition and caliber of players, fans are seeing more and more high-scoring matches. Teams regularly pass 350 and even 400 runs at the World Cup. Several teams were also disqualified due to low overall scores.
But a rare scenario occurs when the defending team gets less than 200 points. There have been a number of cases where teams successfully defended a low total score. And that’s what we’re here to cover. Below you can check the list of lowest totals defended in the ICC Cricket World Cup.

Lowest total saves in World Cup
#1 Zimbabwe v England (1992)
Zimbabwe is a permanent member of the International Cricket Council but was not known as a strong team until a few years ago. However, Zimbabwe produced one of the most shocking defeats in ICC World Cup history when they beat England by nine points in the 1992 World Cup.
Polishing first, Zimbabwe scored 134, low even by T20 standards. But the pitchers rallied and eliminated the British team in 125 runs. Eddo Brandes scored a 4/21 win in the bowling alley.
#2 UK vs Pakistan (1979)
England and Pakistan clashed in a thrilling match at the 1979 World Cup. England scored an unimpressive 165/9 in 60 rounds. But the British pitchers are not going to give up. Mike Hendrick dismissed Pakistan’s top command, and although the Asian team later hit back, they still lost 14 innings in the end. It is now considered one of the most special victories at the World Cup.
#3 Kenya vs West Indies (1996)
The 1996 World Cup also produced many horrifying surprises, the biggest of which was the West Indies’ humiliating defeat to Kenya. The former champions were eliminated in 93 runs in pursuit of a low goal of 167 runs. Rajab Ali dispatched top West Indies, including star Brian Lara. Despite being rated a lot weaker, Kenya surprised the West Indies at the World Cup, causing frustration for the ages.
