Luke Broadwater is a congressional correspondent for the New York Times’ Washington department. For nearly ten years before joining The Baltimore Sun, he covered Baltimore City Hall and the Maryland Statehouse.
He also served as managing editor of B, the free daily newspaper The Sun, senior editor at Patuxent Publishing, and from January 2009 to January 2010 co-founded Investigative Voice. From June 2002 to May 2006, he worked as a reporter for The Howard County Times in Columbia, Maryland. From May 2006 to March 2009, he was a reporter for The Baltimore Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland.
He reported on the deactivation of hundreds of speed cameras that were issuing incorrect tickets to drivers, and one of his stories helped pass a state constitutional amendment that returned billions in casino revenue to public schools. Additionally, in 2015 he received the Education Writers Association Award for Investigative Reporting for his reporting on the working conditions of teachers in Baltimore schools.
