Man grows onion weighing 8.97 kg. It’s heavier than a bowling ball

A Guernsey man recently broke the world record for growing the world’s largest onion. And no, it doesn’t weigh one or three kg, but 8.97 kg. Gareth Griffin proudly displayed his products at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show in North Yorkshire on 15th September. This surpassed the previous record of 8.5 kg set in 2014.

“This bow weighs more than a bowling ball!” reads the caption written alongside the pictures shared on Instagram. In the next few lines, they discovered the weight of the bow.

“15. In September, Gareth Griffin from Guernsey unveiled the world’s heaviest onion – an eye-watering 8.97kg (19lb 12.4oz) monster – at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show in North Yorkshire,” they added.

The record-keeping organization concluded the announcement, noting, “For some context, the new record holder is about 53 times heavier than a typical brown bow and even heavier than a large bowling ball, which typically weighs 7.25 kg (16 lb). “

After setting the record for growing the world’s largest onion, Griffin told the Guinness Book of World Records (GWR): “I am absolutely delighted to have grown the world’s largest onion.” “My father grew giant onions for years up until the year he died, but his biggest was 7lb 12oz, so growing the world record means even more to me than it would to most people,” he added.
