News about Marjorie Taylor Greene
Controversial Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia was sworn to testify on Friday to defend her claims against the January 6 riots at the US Capitol, as voters and a legal group supporting her challenge her for re-election, who are seeking to remove her from the ballot for her role in the riots.
Although a Democratic-led committee in Washington, D.C., has been investigating the attack for months, Greene became the first Republican member of Congress to testify publicly on January 6 with her appearance in an Atlanta courthouse on Friday.
Some Greene County residents, represented by the nonprofit Free Speech For People, argued that Greene should be removed because she allegedly encouraged and supported rioters who stormed the Capitol. This resulted in Greene’s appearance in administrative court.
On the witness stand, the congresswoman repeated baseless allegations of election fraud and repeatedly asserted that she had been strangled before January. 6 languages about contesting election numbers, not about inciting violence.
When asked, Greene replied: “I do not support any form of violence. “My words were never, never, never meant for violence.”
There were several Greene fans in the courtroom who clapped as she walked in. Free Speech For People’s legal team is based on a provision in the United States Constitution that prohibits any member of Congress from participating in rebellion from holding public office. The 14th Amendment prohibiting former members of the Confederacy from holding seats in Congress was enacted in the years following the Civil War.
Greene has a history of using derogatory language to criticize his political opponents and has frequently spread disinformation about the 2020 election, especially in the months leading up to the January 6, 2021 election.
Ron Fein, the legal director of Free Speech for People, told the judge, “This is not a case that the equestrian leaders who led the charge allege.” “Instead, rebel leaders were among us on Facebook, Twitter and other unhealthy social media platforms. Marjorie Taylor Greene is one of them, the proof will show.
