The son of a Wellington woman, who was murdered decades ago by a notorious murderous clown, speaks out for the first time since accepting a plea agreement that led to the conviction of his mother’s killer near This.
Joe Ahrens told WPTV that after 33 years of suffering, he is finally at peace, despite wanting the case to go to trial. The enigmatic story has dominated the news for more than three decades.

His mother’s killer was sentenced to 12 years in prison on April 25. Sheila Keen Warren has agreed to a plea agreement to murder Marlene Warren, the wife of her boyfriend, Michael Warren.
Ahrens knew that the plea agreement stripped him of his chance of receiving a harsher sentence – possibly even life in prison – if the case went to trial.
“I’m much better now. I’m relieved to have lost 1,000 pounds,” Ahrens added. “I now have the energy I should have had a long time ago.”
He recalled having breakfast with his mother on the day of the shooting 33 years ago.

However, soon someone was knocking on the door.
We saw paint, flowers and balloons, but the doorbell didn’t work, Ahrens added.
His mother stood up from the table.
He recalls thinking, “Oh, so beautiful, flowers and balloons,” when she opened the door, but suddenly there was a crash. “My whole universe has changed. The worst day of my life was like that.
He claimed that he could not see the person wearing the clown suit.
“You can’t tell,” he replied. “Can you see someone dressed as a clown? All facilities are covered.
He simply remembered that the killer was returning to their getaway vehicle, eerily calm.
He called 911 when he got his car keys.
Ahrens admitted: “I was driving crazy, crazy and ran a red light. But we didn’t manage to catch them.
But he claims that both he and investigators suspected Sheila Keen Warren early on.
In addition, he believes that her stepfather is sleeping with her.
“He won’t be coming home, so that says it all,” noted Ahrens.
He intended to tell the jury, if the case went to trial, that he had seen Sheila Keen-Warren kiss Michael Warren at a house party while his mother was present.
