Maryland man recalls AirBnb horror, says ‘bed was in garage and shower was covered in mold’

A Maryland man recounted his horrific experience at an expensive Airbnb. According to reports, Nick Doty described how the rental space has a bed in the garage, locked air conditioning and other horrible amenities in a video he shared on TikTok. Since the video was released, it has attracted considerable attention.

A man and his friends rented a property in San Diego to attend a friend’s wedding. The five-bedroom, five-bathroom home is listed for sale on Zillow (a real estate company) for $4.9 million. Doty and his friends paid an incredible $1,250 for a night at the residence, the New York Post reports.

Doty mentioned that the first alleged bedroom was in the garage. There were no windows or sockets in the garage that had been converted into a bedroom. There was a lamp in the corner, but it was not clear how to get electricity for it. Doty then asked his fellow travelers to choose their favorite features of Airbnb. According to Jameson, a friend of Doty’s, his favorite feature of the house was the “recumbent toilets.” Doty followed him into the bathroom where the toilet was standing free from the wall, Insider.com reports.

But the horror does not end there. Although the room had air conditioning, its remote control was locked in a box, which could only be accessed at an extra cost. There were no vents or air conditioning in the basement bathroom, but there was a dehumidifier that he said didn’t work. The shower was also covered in mold. Among other oddities in the home, he found a shopping cart in the garage, an oven that took hours to heat up, and light fixtures supported by screws sticking out of the walls. Doty also showed how dirty the floors were by showing his blackened feet.

In a statement, Airbnb told The Post: “In the rare event that an ad is not as advertised, our AirCover protection for guests provides support with refunds and alternative accommodation, and we take action on issues brought to our attention . Since these guests did not report any issues to us, we contacted them to study their experience and offer our support.”
