Deb Smith was in tears when she saw her daughter Kelly Curtis march with Team USA at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Deb’s husband, John, revealed city themes, “Imagination and reality came together today when I saw Kelly. There are moments when it is difficult to describe your feelings. I know Deb was crying. I’ve been watching the opening ceremonies since she was 10 years old on TV without knowing anyone. Seeing her was an experience I thought I would be ready for, but it was quite emotional.”
In addition to athletics, Deb played an integral role in Kelly’s life as a mother and cheerleader. She boasted about her daughter’s trip on social media. On January 14, 2022, Kelly posted on her Instagram: “It’s official! She Made the Olympic Team!!! I’m very proud of her!”
