Meet Colleen Nick, mother of Morgan Nick
A family friend invited them to little league baseball game in Alma, Arkansas, on the night of June 9, 1995, which was thirty miles from his home. Just the two of them, Morgan and Colleen decided to go out on a “girls night out”. They were visiting for the first time. Colleen remembers that it was a cozy, intimate and enjoyable evening for them. With no hint of the nightmare that was about to come true, it was a night of joy shared between them.
Two girls from the neighborhood, eight and ten years old, friends of Morgan’s, invited her to play with them all night. She first wanted to stay with Colleen. However, she asked Colleen if she could follow them to a neighboring field and catch fireflies around 10:30 pm Colleen said “no” at first. Mom was begging Morgan to come along with Morgan and her two friends of hers.
Colleen’s friend informed her that the grounds were safe and frequented by neighborhood children. Eventually, Colleen informed Morgan that she could go play, against her better judgment. After giving her a bear hug and a kiss on the cheek, Morgan parted ways with her friends. Colleen instructed her to “stay where she can see you” as they drove.
About fifty yards away, Colleen could at first make out Morgan and his friends playing in the field. When she turned to look one last time, Morgan was playing and running around. But her friends left the field without her when she finished the baseball game at 10:45 pm When Colleen asked where Morgan was, they said she was cleaning sand from her shoes near the car.
