Mind-boggling optical illusion with black and white circle shows a hidden number – and everyone is seeing it differently

Optical illusion is taking social media by storm as thousands of users share different views of what they see.

Twitter user Benonwine shared an image of a black and white circle that appears to show hidden numbers, but people can’t seem to agree on which number they’re seeing.

In the circle there is a black and white zigzag pattern in an alternation that alternates to create the illusion that the photograph is moving. Inside the circle are hidden numbers, some of which are obscured by the pattern.

“See the number?” Benonwine wrote. “If so, what number?”

In the comments, users discussed how many numbers are in the photo. One user wrote: “45,283… so what’s the wait? Should I make an appointment with my GP?”

In response, another user said: “Yes, because you missed a digit.”

Another user claims to have seen various numbers. “3452839. It was harder for me to remember what I saw than to see,” they said. “I could only remember 2 numbers at a time. Eyesight was great. Memory sucks.”

One user theorized that the numbers a person sees may depend on their “contrast sensitivity.”

“It can be tested by opticians,” the user said. “This is worth doing if you have problems, as it can affect your ability to see at night, in rain, fog, etc.”

According to Science Direct, contrast sensitivity is a measure of a person’s ability to distinguish an object from its background.

Certain eye conditions or diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, or diabetic retinopathy can affect a person’s contrast sensitivity.

However, in the midst of all the discussion, a user took the opportunity to make a joke.

“It just says ‘KILL’.” the user wrote, referencing the popular “Yanny or Laurel” meme.
