Armor
The best armor sets.

Fortunately, the goal is not to craft every piece of armor, just the ones you need.

The Nargacuga set is great against water and has some really cool abilities. With the full set, you’ll gain Nargacuga Essence, a useful ability that keeps your weapons sharp for much longer. For light weapon users, the Stamina Surge ability is a huge advantage, as it significantly increases stamina recovery. The Evade Window ability was mentioned earlier, but Nargacugina is unmatched at level five. You don’t have to worry about taking damage from dodging.
Focus on resistors
While we highly recommend the four sets above, when you’re fighting a monster, you might want to focus on resistances. Does Glavenus hit you with fire and explosion damage? Craft the Uragaan set to increase your fire resistance. Do you have problems against Barioth? Go back and farm Banbaro materials to create a set that is more resistant to ice.
Look for piles of bones and dig for minerals.
Many non-monster based weapon and armor sets require bone and ore to craft. If you see a bunch of bones, look it up. Pass some ore? Get your pickaxe out and get to work. While monster sets tend to offer more abilities, you can still forge a great set out of ore and bone alone. The advantage is that you don’t have to hunt monsters over and over again to complete an armor.

Armor Orbs allow you to improve the overall defense of each piece of armor. Complete bounties and quests to earn Armor Spheres. Master Rank brings Heavy Armor Spheres into the circle. The armor pieces come with innate abilities, but don’t forget to fit them with gems. Each piece of armor and weapon can contain up to three gems of three different sizes. The bigger the gem, the more powerful the ability. Decorations are a great way to balance weaknesses. If you choose armor that is particularly weak against an element, you can level up the scales by adding gems.
You will earn gems with each mission you complete. iceborne, but you can also merge new ones into Elder Melder. Certain “+” cloaks like the Ghillie Mantle+ can also be equipped with gems, so remember to access them from the Specialized Tools menu.

Weapon
When it comes to Master Rank weapons, it’s harder to give a definitive list of what’s best. Each of the 14 weapons of the World go back iceborne with Master Rank versions. While their upgrade paths are tied to low/high rank, you don’t need to fully upgrade a weapon to unlock the master rank versions. Instead, you can forge the starting version of the Master Rank weapon in the appropriate tree if you have enough zennies and the correct parts.

From there, you have to decide which weapon tree to follow. Your main concern should be the overall damage of the attack. Note that these vary greatly between weapons. The 400 attack with Dual Blades is great, but very weak with Great Sword (it’s good above 1000).
But after attack damage, you want to look at three other key attributes: sharpness, affinity, and element.
Sharpness
The sharpness meter is confusing because it has six different colors, from white (sharpest) to red (dull). Once you sharpen your weapon, it will become sharper, but as you use it, it naturally becomes less effective. When deciding between two weapons of the same class that have similar values, look at sharpness. If you see a lot of white, blue, and green, your weapon will be effective longer between sharpening uses. If a significant portion of the meter is occupied by red, orange, and yellow (especially red), the blade will lose its effective sharpness more quickly.
Affinity
Don’t worry too much about these statistics. Tons of weapons have zero percent affinity, even master rank weapons. But if you’re comparing similar weapons and one has 20 percent affinity while the other has none, remember that affinity applies to critical hits. An affinity of 20 percent is significant. This means that one in five hits, on average, will result in more damage. Critical hits are also more likely to stagger monsters. If you don’t have affinity, you can increase it by using armor and adornment skills.
Element
This one is important. Elemental damage can drastically change the course of a fight. Each monster is critically weak to at least one element and somewhat weak to more than one. Almost all weapons have elemental damage: fire, water, ice, thunder, dragon, paralysis, poison, explosion, sleep, etc.
