American musician Jared Leto climbed to the top of the Empire State Building on Thursday. The 51-year-old star pulled off a daring stunt to promote his band Thirty Seconds to Mars’ new tour. His band’s new tour is scheduled to take place from March to September 2024.

Managers of the Empire State Building’s official account took to X (formerly Twitter) and compared Leto’s adventure to what happened in the iconic 1933 film King Kong.

“1933 King Kong scaled the Empire State Building. 2023 @JaredLeto took his place,” the Empire State Building wrote while sharing a video of Leto’s surreal feat.

In an interview with TODAY, Leto said that climbing the Empire State Building has been a longtime personal goal of his. He emphasized how difficult it was to climb the skyscraper.

“I was more excited than nervous to tell you the truth. But I have to be honest, it was really, really hard. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be,” Leto shared.

“Just the stamina that was needed, the stamina that was needed, and it was very sharp,” he added.

The importance of New York in the life of Jared Leto

Leto went on to reveal the importance of New York in his life and what the Empire State Building symbolizes to him.

“It’s amazing. Watching the sunrise overlooking a city that meant so much to me. Ever since I was a kid, New York was the place you went to make your dreams come true,” the 51-year-old star explained.

“As a kid, I wanted to be an artist, and New York was where you came to be an artist. And the Empire State Building was always that symbol for me.”

“I’ve always been fascinated by the Empire State Building. And I love climbing,” revealed the American musician.

Interestingly, Leto became the first person to ever legally climb to the top of the Empire State Building, writes TODAY.
