India with the highest number of wickets in the World Cup: India is the biggest supporter of cricket in the world. The game of cricket is etched in the very soul of India and its 1.4 billion people. India has produced some of the greatest cricketers of all time, like Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli.
However, when most fans think of great Indian players, they usually think of batsmen. It is true that India’s geography favors batsmen, but in recent times bowlers have become the backbone of the Indian cricket team.
In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Indian bowlers terrorized the lineups of teams like England, New Zealand and Australia. Mohammed Shami, who was on the bench for the first few games, proved to be phenomenal when given a chance in the playing XI.
Shami took two five-ball wickets in 3 matches and in just 14 World Cup innings overtook Zaheer Khan as India’s top bowler. Check out India’s bowlers with the most wickets in ICC Cricket World Cup history here.

List of top wicket takers for India in World Cup history
The One Day International (ODI) format at the World Cup allows players to better develop their bowling skills. India is not known for fast bowlers but has produced many legendary spinners and swing bowlers. However, in recent days, fast bowlers with speeds in excess of 140 kmph have become commonplace in India. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are Indian bowlers who can generate brilliant swing and speed.

#1 Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami was not considered for the main bowling line-up in the 2019 and 2023 World Cup seasons. He was on the bench for the first few games but made the most of his opportunity when he was picked in the playing XI. In the 2019 World Cup, he scored a brilliant hat-trick, and in the 2023 tournament, Shami took 14 wickets in just 3 innings, registering two five-wicket hauls.
