MS Dhoni’s 2011 World Cup winning six eternalised at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium

In 2011, MS Dhoni went on a winning streak at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, bringing the World Cup home after a wait of 28 years. The spot where the ball came to rest when Dhoni hit a six off former Sri Lankan bowler Nuwan Kulasekara took on a special touch for the fans. Official X host of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) shared a picture of the monument titled ‘2011 World Cup Victory Monument’.

“The two seats where MS Dhoni scored six wins in the 2011 ODI World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium will forever be symbolic for every cricket fan,” Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) wrote sharing the image on X. Seats numbered J 282 -286 , located in the fifth row of the pavilion, are now decorated with two replicas of the World Cup trophy. It even has a photo of Team India posing with the 2011 trophy.

The image was shared on October 20 on X. Since then, it has amassed more than 15,900 approximately, plus views and a flurry of likes. Many even commented on the post. The individual said: “That’s brilliant.” “Wow,” announced another.

Earlier in September this year, the Mumbai Cricket Association had announced that it would auction these seats and the funds would be used to sponsor new players. While tweeting a picture of Dhoni, the association wrote, “Dhoni finishes in style. To perpetuate the glory of this moment, the two seats where the ball landed at the Wankhede Stadium after MS Dhoni hit the winning six in the 2011 ICC World Cup will be auctioned by the MCA. Funds raised at this auction will be used for scholarships for new players.”
