My brand new £22,000 electric car is now a total write-off after I took it on holiday

A DRIVER’S brand new £22,000 electric car was written off after she took it on holiday.

Lisa Harding had just enjoyed a lovely stay at the Mercure Kenwood Hall Hotel, in Sheffield, but was shocked to discover a “nightmare scenario” upon leaving.

The fuming photographer, from Lincolnshire, found her pride and joy stuck after the car park flooded.

Rainwater destroyed the car leaving her stranded more than 80 miles from home.

The holidaymaker was devastated to find her plans to show relatives around the Peak District had been wrecked.

To make matters worse, Lisa claimed she received “no help” from the hotel – although a spa treatment was offered.

She vented her frustration on social media and penned: “So there it is. My car written off due to water in the electric gear box.

“£22k car bought from brand new, my first brand new car and it’s gone over night and written off.

“No help from hotel Mercure Sheffield and offered free dinner and a spa treatment as compensation.

“Have to rely on a friend to drive me home tomorrow. Holiday ruined and lost my car. Absolutely devastated.”

The hellish situation came as a result of stormy weather and torrential overnight rain.

Brits were warned yesterday of travel chaos and power cuts as yellow weather warnings were issued across the UK.

Gale force winds of up to 60mph and torrential rain saw trees ripped up and roads flooded.

This comes as another electric car owner saw his motor written off when he left it at the airport.

Stunned Trevor Bailey, 71, found his £30,000 vehicle in a crumpled mess after returning from Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands.

Meanwhile, one Brit was left devastated after flying back from a holiday to find his car undrivable.

Douglas Peel, 66, paid £140 to leave his 2007 Honda Jazz at Heathrow Airport’s long-stay carpark before jetting off on holiday to Thailand – but found a nasty surprise when he returned.

Plus, a student who said she left her car with an airport parking firm – only to come back and find they’d crashed it.
