Naira Marley In Police Custody For Questioning In Mohbad Case

Nigerian singer-songwriter Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has been taken into police custody for questioning in connection with the death of fellow musician Mohbad.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Naira Marley has been detained by the police for questioning and other investigative activities.

The case of Mohbad

Mohbad, whose real name is Ilerioulwa Aloba, was a former signee of Marlian Records, the record label owned by Naira Marley. He passed away on September 12, 2023 at the age of 27 in Lagos State. After his death, allegations of foul play emerged and the police investigated the case.

Naira Marley’s involvement

Naira Marley is linked to the case because of his association with Mohbad and Marlian Records. In a recent statement, Naira Marley denied any involvement in Mohbad’s death and vowed to clear her name. However, he was taken to the police for questioning in connection with this case.

Naira Marley’s claims

Naira Marley continued to maintain his innocence, stating that he had been providing professional help to Mohbad after being aware of his mental state. He revealed that he paid for several recordings to help the deceased singer. In a video shared on Reno Omokri’s Instagram page, Naira Marley could be heard communicating with Mohbad in the Yoruba language, expressing concern over his mental state.

Police investigation

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of Mohbad and the arrest of Naira Marley is part of the ongoing investigation. The police have not released any official statement regarding the case, but sources say that Naira Marley has been detained for questioning and other investigative activities.

Naira Marley’s Arrest List

This is not the first time that Naira Marley has been arrested. Here is a list of his previous arrests:

  • May 2019: Naira Marley was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged online fraud.
