Oura goes back to basics with its classy new Horizon smart ring design

This is Oura Ring Horizon, a new take on Oura’s excellent smart ring, this time with a subtle design and a whole new color to go with it.

The Horizon joins the existing Heritage design, which features a slightly flattened section that breaks up the simple shape of the ring but gives it a more masculine appeal. The skyline is much simpler, instead of being a completely simple and very traditional circular shape.

Still, it’s not without its unusual appeal; At the bottom of the ring is a small notch that exposes the textured titanium beneath the polished exterior. Its placement is not accidental, as it is placed below the many sensors of the ring so that you can easily feel if they are placed correctly. On the Heritage model, the flattened part works the same way, but is placed on the opposite side of the sensor.

Oura introduced the Horizon in existing silver, black, stealth and gold finishes, but added a rose gold option to the lineup. I’ve been using the silver version for the past few days and the Horizon has replaced my usual polished black Heritage model. While it doesn’t feel any different, I’d say it’s a bit wider than the Heritage and has a bit more of a curve on the sides. In silver, it leaves an impression on your finger, and polished titanium really catches the light.

Out of shape, the Horizon shares the same features as the third-generation Heritage, which also remains in the lineup. This means that it monitors your heart rate during the day and night, your blood oxygen levels, and your body temperature. Oura Ring can be used to track your heart rate during indoor and outdoor exercise, though options are currently limited to walking, running, or cycling. Sleep tracking is the Oura ring’s strong suit, giving detailed insights into your sleep patterns the longer you wear it.

Oura Ring also has a period predictor feature and works with the Natural Cycles app, has in-app meditation and wellness sessions, Strava integration, the option to use steps or calories as your daily goal (or even ignore calories altogether ) and the option to pause tracking to promote rest and recovery. Though promised for a while, Oura’s improved sleep phase algorithm hasn’t arrived yet, but it’s apparently still on the schedule for 2022.

The Oura Ring’s battery is estimated to last seven days between charges, but if you’re using blood oxygen monitoring and exercise tracking, that’s hard to achieve. Instead, wait around five days if you take full advantage of Our Ring’s features. The charging stand comes with a ring, and a great way to avoid unexpected battery drain is to charge it while you shower. Do this every other day and you’ll never need a “full” charge.

The Oura Ring Horizon is available to buy now, starting at $349 for the silver and black versions, but expect to pay more for the invisible, gold, or new rose gold finishes. Each ring comes with six months of free access to the Oura app and tracking features, but after that period, you’ll need to pay $6 per month to continue accessing data and information.

  1. Thanks for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research about this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I am very glad to see such wonderful info being shared freely out there.
