In a post on Instagram, Pardeep revealed that his grandmother’s family had been transferred from India to the West Indies as servants and was given £600 to “start a new life” in an unknown, foreign country. That when her grandmother moved to Brooklyn, she gave birth to 11 children, bought a house, and was left with a loving husband.
She explained how her grandmother never complained about her circumstances, even though she started out with nothing when she moved to the United States.

Pardeep Singh is a research scientist at Columbia University and vice chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee of the National Science Policy Network (NSPN).

At the height of the COVID pandemic and after 3 degrees and 7 years in the lab, he secured a partnership at SUNY Downstate Incubators to obtain free BSL2 lab space which he converted into a COVID-19 diagnostic testing facility.
As a Brooklyn native, opening this pop-up COVID-19 testing lab in the heart of the borough means a lot to him, also because it meant he was able to bring testing to the same communities he grew up in, which often lacked access to healthcare.
For the next year i.e. 2021, Pardeep vowed to emerge as a leader in his community, share his vulnerabilities, find love and break boundaries in science and politics.
Even during his graduate studies at the City University of New York, the science and political enthusiast was not afraid to be political. He wrote a handwritten letter to Senator Chuck Schumer on issues related to diversity in STEM and the shortage of graduate science teachers in New York City public schools.
Additionally, Pardeep also launched the second season of his Deep Thoughts podcast on Apple Podcasts in September 2021.
In 2019, he had the pleasure of visiting the United Nations for the Economic and Social Council Youth Forum.
Looking back, Pardeep also realizes that his whole life was a struggle. Among other things, she also had to deal with extreme poverty, poor education in public schools, bullying, and supporting a single mother. She often believed that her story was not important. And this is exactly why she started Deep Thoughts believing that one’s individual experiences can help build a better future for all.
