Have you ever heard of the World Gravy Wrestling Championship? It’s a one-of-a-kind event where people wear fancy dresses to wrestle in a sauce-filled pool to win the championship. Like every year, in 2023, too many participated in this “wild and wacky wrestling competition”.

What is the championship about?
According to the event’s official website, “Competitors must wrestle in the sauce for 2 minutes.” However, their wrestling ability is not the only thing that decides the results. Turns out they’re also scored for “fancy dress, comedic impact and fun.” The event is organized to raise money for charity. In addition, it provides a day of wholesome fun for participants and their families.
The organizers also shared a video of the event on YouTube. The clip shows the participants wrestling each other covered in the sauce. “Hundreds of wrestling fans gathered to watch people in fancy dress squirm in hot sauce for the World Gravy Wrestling Championship. In this 15th edition of the popular Bank Holiday event, punters have been queuing outside the Rose ‘N’ Bowl in Stacksteads, Rossendale since midday for the world famous event,” reads the caption posted alongside the video.

The video was shared on August 30 and has since received nearly 300 views. The stock also garnered a few comments. “Makes me proud of my hometown,” the YouTube user wrote. “It’s hard to take this seriously because wrestling is so unconstructed,” shared another. A third posted a clapping emoticon.
