After 72 hours of detention, the prefect can suspend the license for up to six months, and for one year in the case of an accident, driving under the influence of alcohol or after consuming narcotics.

According to Road Safety, a phone behind the wheel is responsible for 10 personal injury accidents and increases the risk of an accident by three.
