R&B Singer R. Kelly Pleads Not Guilty To New 11 Sex Charges

R&B singer R. Kelly pleaded not guilty to 11 new sex charges

R&B singer R. Kelly pleaded not guilty Thursday to an additional 11 sex-related charges, along with 4 counts that carry the majority of a 30-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors did not ask for a decision to increase Kelly’s bail through a preliminary hearing in a Cook County courtroom.

Kelly stood with his palms folded in front of him as he listened to Choose Lawrence Flood describe the costs. When Flood asked if she understood, Kelly replied, “Of course, sir.” The Grammy-winning singer, who has denied any wrongdoing, left without speaking to reporters. A permanent hearing has been scheduled for June 26.

Among the numerous 11 new charges in the indictment are 4 counts for the felony offense of sexual assault, for which a sentence of up to 30 years in prison has been prevented. That’s more than four times the time limit for each of the 10 counts Kelly was originally charged with in February.

The R&B singer has denied the abuse allegations for years. In 2008, he was tried on lesser charges of pornography and found not responsible.

It was not clear from the charging document if the new charges were related to the most recent charges, but Kelly’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, said they were not.
