New U.S. intelligence skills in Jamal Khashoggi’s murder bolster a media report that says suspicion is against Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The New York Times reported Thursday that the crown prince told a staff member about a year before the journalist’s assassination that if possible, he would “take a bullet” against Khashoggi. However, it was not clear to what extent this was meant literally.
The paper states that the US intelligence services eavesdropped on a conversation between the powerful heir to the throne and a staff member in September 2017. The recorded conversation was, therefore, only recently recorded in written form.
Mohammed am Salman therefore said that in Washington, Khashoggi living in exile had to be lured to Saudi Arabia or return the violence. If that doesn’t work, they will go “on the bullet” against journalists who are critical of the government.
