Katherine Clark’s daughter, Riley Dowell, was arrested in Boston. They were charged with writing graffiti against police officers and with assaulting a police officer. Police claimed Riley Dowell was seen spray-painting “NO COP CITY” and “ACAB,” which stands for “All Cops Are Bastards,” on the Parkman Bandstand monument on Boston Common.
Police identified Dowell as “Jared Dowell” and said he is non-binary. They were detained for vandalism when “a group of about 20 protesters continued to surround” the agents who arrested them.
Reportedly blocking traffic and yelling obscenities into megaphones on the sidewalk, the protesters surrounded the arresting police officers. The officer was wounded in the face and was bleeding from his mouth and nose at one point during the tense standoff, according to Boston police. Riley was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, injury or destruction of personal property, tagging or defacing property with graffiti.
Katherine took it Twitter and announced her daughter’s arrest, writing: “My daughter was arrested last night in Boston, Massachusetts. I love Riley, and this is a very difficult time in the joy and pain cycle of parenthood. That will be evaluated by the legal system and I trust that process.”
Riley was expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
