Interview with Riley Gaines

Whenever there are controversies in the sports world about transgender athletes, transgender swimmer Lia Thomas is in the spotlight. Lia competes for the men’s swim team at the University of Pennsylvania. After hormone replacement therapy, she entered the women’s team competition.

As soon as Lia started swimming as a swimmer, she started setting records. Riley Gaines and Lia Thomas competed in the 200 freestyle final at the NCAA Championships. Gaines was always against Lia when competing in the women’s event.

Riley was recently interviewed by Amy DeLaura of The Washington Examiner. In the interview, she said:

“I think for sure there will be someone, whether it be a coach, another swimmer, or someone in the NCAA, I think for sure someone will come out to protect us. That’s when I realized it’s my duty as an athlete who has experienced this injustice to really use my voice and platform to advocate for athletes who are being blackmailed. and emotionally gagged.”

When asked why she is speaking now, Gaines said:

“Honestly, I am speaking out because I am someone who looked to someone for hope and encouragement when I was about to speak up. When we didn’t see it, it hit me. If we as women aren’t willing to stand up for ourselves, how can we expect anyone else to do it?”

Amy asked Riley Gaines about the prospects she lost by swimming with a transgender person. The diver replied:

“First and foremost, I think the obvious thing that caught all of us off guard was the situation in the dressing room that completely disrupted our game. It was a complete distraction and swimming. It’s also pretty intense, so when you get there, you’ll be ready for a quick swim. But you have someone with male genitalia pulling your pants down, watching you undress. It throws you off.
