Who is Ron Lafferty?
Ronald “Ron” Lafferty was the eldest son of eight children born to Watson Leroy Lafferty and Claudine Jones Lafferty. His parents were married June 6, 1940, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Ron came from a prominent Utah Mormon family known for his strong values.

By profession, Watson was a doctor of chiropractic. He was born in Raymond, Alberta, Canada, the son of Charles Lafferty and Myrtle Louise Lafferty. He attended Canadian schools and served in the US Navy in World War II. He attended the University of Utah, Utah State University, and Saint Ambrose College in Iowa.
In addition, he graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport in 1956. He worked as a chiropractor for 16 years in Payson. Later, in 1972, he moved to Provo, Utah.
Watson was a strict disciplinarian who occasionally directed his quiet anger at his wife and their pets. He killed the family dog with a baseball bat after an argument with his wife. His father sowed the seeds of paranoia, rebellion, and fanaticism. He instilled in his children skepticism about traditional medicine and the federal government.

Allen’s mother, Claudine, was the tenth of 11 children born to Calvin Sparks and Christina Elizabeth Peterson Jones in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended South High School and Ex-cel-cis Beauty School graduating in 1937. He worked as an esthetician for over 70 years and forged many lifelong friendships.
Claudine served the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a Junior Sunday School coordinator, Relief Society president, and many other roles, including secretary in the Young Women presidency in her ward at the age of 84 years old and in the Relief Society presidency when he was 90 years old. . .
Claudine died on January 28, 2016 at the age of 96. At the time of her death, she had 60 grandchildren, 156 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Ron and his brother Dan became best friends and were known for their quick tempers and willingness to back each other up in a fight. As he became a man, they followed the path that his father had laid out for them. Polygamy was repudiated by the mainstream Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah more than a century ago, but some branches of the church continue to practice it, calling themselves “fundamentalist Mormons.”
Dan was against it, and his brother Allen Lafferty married his sister-in-law Brenda, who was raised in a traditional Utah family. From the beginning, Ron was very adamant in approving of Allen’s marriage to Brenda. For years, Ron followed the steps to being a successful young church member: he served a church mission in Florida, then returned to Utah to marry, have children, and find a job.
He also served on volunteer councils for his congregation and community.
But in 1982, Ron began spending more time with his brother Dan, who believed that the main church should never have abandoned polygamy. Eventually, Ron accepted his brother’s beliefs and the two were excommunicated in 1983.
Ron then joined an outlaw polygamous cult known as the ‘School of Prophets’ and abandoned his clean-shaven appearance in favor of long hair and an unruly beard.
The six brothers now spent more time with their brothers, who were enraged against the LDS Church and the United States government, than with their wives and children.

Ron Lafferty died of natural causes at the Draper facility in November 2019, according to prison officials. He had been sentenced to death for 34 years, but no execution date had been set. His attorney, Therese Michelle Day, said her client is mentally ill and believes his imprisonment is the result of a conspiracy between the state, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and “unseen spiritual forces,” including the Judge’s Ghost late father.
“In spite of everything, Mr. Lafferty himself never believed that he was mentally ill or incompetent,” Day said. “An expert said that if he is guilty of faking something, he is guilty of pretending to be normal when he is not. Mr. Lafferty, like other mentally ill prisoners, was not treated for his mental illness as he should have been”.

Ron Lafferty’s Wife
Ron Lafferty was reportedly married to his ex-wife Diana, with whom he reportedly had six children.
Diana divorced Ron in 1984 and moved to Florida with her children after he wanted to practice polygamy. The divorce began his steady descent into madness. She spent days and nights writing what she hoped would one day be read as writing in the old Orem home that the brothers called “the farm.”
His anxiety over his wife’s departure turned to anger, which he directed at three people: Chloe Low, a former LDS Relief Society president who stood by his wife through the divorce; Richard Stowe, president of the Highland LDS Stake, who presided over the earlier communication from him; and Brenda Wright Lafferty, the strong wife of his younger brother Allen.
Allen’s wife, Brenda, a former beauty queen and high school graduate, spoke with confidence on topics others would keep quiet about. She told Ron and Dan that she didn’t think they were prophets. Ron’s anger increased when Brenda prevented Allen from joining the School of Prophets with his brothers. He first moved away from his wife, now he shared the brothers.
In March 1984, Ron recorded what would become known as a “disposal discovery” on a yellow legal pad. He later shared it with the School of Prophets, to the alarm of its members.
“Thus says the Lord to my servants the prophets,” Ron wrote. “It is my will and command that you remove the following people so that my work can progress. Because they have really become an obstacle in my path and I will not let my work stop. First your brother’s wife Brenda and her child, then Chloe Low and then Richard Stowe. And it is my will that they be removed in rapid succession.”
Ron and Dan set out on the afternoon of July 24, 1984 to make the discovery. They drove to Allen and Brenda’s American Fork duplex in a beat-up green pickup truck, with a sawed-off shotgun, a Winchester 30-30, a 270 deer rifle, and two pearl-handled knives. They only used knives.
