Rotimi and Vanessa Mdee are expecting their second child. While speaking to People, the couple confirmed the news, saying:
“We are delighted to announce the arrival of our newborn daughter.” What a beautiful proof of God’s goodness. We are overjoyed.”
Photos released by People show the couple revealing they are having a baby girl as Rotimi opens an umbrella, causing pink confetti to fall on them. They already have a son, Seven, who was born last September. Rotimi and Vanessa revealed the baby’s name and posted a close-up photo of him on their Instagram profiles. Rotimi shared the news on Instagram, writing: “I feel blessed.”
The couple also told People about the birth of their first child, saying they were delighted to meet their son. They noted that everything about the experience was a new challenge for them as first-time parents and they enjoyed it. The couple met at a party after the Essence Festival in New Orleans and have been together ever since. They plan to get married in Atlanta in December 2020.

Vanessa Mdee (34) is a singer, rapper, television personality and presenter. In 2007, she auditioned for MTV VJ Search, and in 2008, along with Carol and Kule, she hosted the Coca-Cola Chart Express. She was the first Tanzanian VJ on MTV. She continues to present shows in Tanzania and outside Africa. Vanessa Mdee hosted Senses, Sounds, and Wisdom with Zantela at Sauti Za Busara in 2009. She hosted the MTV Africa Music Awards red carpet event for three years before becoming the host of The Hitlist on 102.5. Choice FM in 2011, where she interviewed musicians such as Kelly Rowland, Rick Ross, Ludacris, Tay Green, Dr. AIDS and others.
Mdee hosted MTV Base Meets in 2012 and auditioned for BET’s 106 & Park but was not hired. She began her music career in 2012 when she performed the song “Me and You” by Ommy Dimpoz. Closer, her debut single was released in 2013 and received four nominations at the Tanzania Music Awards.
Vanessa introduced MTV Base Hunters Oasis, followed by Epiq Bongo Star Search Season 7 and Dume Challenge. In November 2013, she released another song, Come Over. She also appeared in the second season of Coke Studio Africa, when she sang with Nigerian singer Burna Boy.
In 2014, Vanessa Mdee signed an endorsement deal with Crown Paints to be their Tanzanian brand ambassador and partnered with Tanzanian artist Barnaba Elias to produce their new duet, Siri. The following year, she agreed to become a brand ambassador for Samsung Tanzania. No one but me, her sixth single, was released the same year. She has performed at several events including Mombasa Rocks as well as in Dodoma, Morogoro, Arusha, Houston and other cities. In 2019, she served as a judge on the first season of East Africa’s Got Talent. Vanessa Mdee’s first album, Money Mondays, was released in January 2018 and she has also appeared in several episodes of MTV Shuga Down South as Stormi the glam madam.
