Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G vs. Galaxy S10 5G

As 5G networks continue to develop and expand, you may be looking for a smartphone that can take advantage. If you’ve decided you’re ready to pick up a 5G phone and are happy to look at the older generations, then you might be interested in checking out two super-sized options from Samsung: the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G and the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G.

While the S10 5G is the biggest and most expensive of the S10 lineup, it’s also significantly different from its siblings, while the Note 10 Plus5G is identical to the Note 10 Plus except for 5G support. At first glance, the Note 10 Plus5G and S10 5G have a lot in common, so choosing between these two smartphones will be difficult, but this comparison will help because we’ll explain exactly how they differ.

Performance, battery life and charging

Samsung <entity>Galaxy Note 10</entity> Plus” style=”aspect-ratio: 1.5″/>Julian Chokkattu/Digital Trends</p>
<p>It’s no surprise to find Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor inside both of these phones, and it ensures fast performance. The Note 10 Plus5G comes with 12GB of RAM, while the S10 5G comes with 8GB of RAM. Realistically, only serious multitaskers will feel the benefit of the extra RAM here. Both come with 256GB or 512GB of storage, but only the Note 10 Plus5G has a MicroSD card slot for expansion.</p>
<p>The S10 5G has a larger 4500mAh battery, and with a slightly smaller screen, we’d expect it to outlast the Note 10 Plus5G. But the Note 10 Plus5G has the upper hand in the charging department — while both have 25W chargers in the box, the Note supports up to 45W charging, though you’ll need to buy a separate charger separately. Both phones support 15W fast wireless charging.</p>

  • 2. Samsung Galaxy S10 5G

There are clear similarities between these phones, both featuring beautiful curved displays and curved glass backs that blend into metal frames. Both also have in-display fingerprint sensors. The most obvious difference is the camera suite on the back, which is horizontally stacked in the S10 5G, but vertically stacked and shifted to the left in the Note. The S10 5G has a Bixby button and a 3.5mm headphone jack, while the Note ditches both. On the front, the S10 5G has a dual-lens camera and a punch-hole at the top right, while the Note comes with a single central lens. The Note also has a retractable S Pen. There are also differences in available colors, and the Aura Glow Note is sure to attract a lot of admiring glances.

We prefer the more rounded corners on the S10 5G, but Samsung has managed to pack a slightly larger screen into the Note without expanding its footprint, and they’re the same weight. It’s hard to choose here. No one will likely miss the Bixby button, but some people will be tempted to opt for the S10 5G just for the headphone jack. On the other hand, some people will want the S Pen that only comes with the Note.

Display

The Note boasts a 6.8-inch screen, while the S10 has a 6.7-inch screen. Both are Dynamic AMOLED with the same resolution and both have HDR10+ certification. These are still two of the best and brightest screens you’ll find on a phone today. The Note will win here due to its slightly larger display, but also because it only has one camera lens with a single hole in the middle, while the S10 loses a bit more screen space with its dual-lens front-facing camera.

Camera

With incredible quad-lens setups, the S10 5G and Note 10 Plus5G truly have some of the most versatile cameras around. Both include a 12-megapixel main lens with variable aperture from f/1.5 to f/2.4 and optical image stabilization, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens (also with OIS) and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens sf Aperture / 2.2, along with a time-of-flight sensor that can capture accurate depth information. The Note’s telephoto aperture size is slightly larger, going from sf/2.4 in the S10 to f/2.1 in the Note, which should allow for slightly better low-light performance, though we don’t expect to see much of a difference.

On the front, the S10 pulls ahead with a dual-lens setup that combines a 10-megapixel lens with an f/1.9 aperture and a second time-of-flight sensor. The Note only has a single 10-megapixel lens on the front and has a smaller f/2.2 aperture meaning it won’t cope in low-light situations either. If you’re a big fan of selfies, the S10 5G is the phone to choose.

Software and updates

With Android 11 and Samsung’s excellent OneUI on top, you’ll have pretty much the same software experience whichever phone you choose. The Note has a few extras related to the S Pen, but you won’t miss them if you’re not a pen user. Samsung isn’t the fastest at updating Android versions, but you’ll have a similar schedule with either of these phones, so there’s nothing to share here.

Special features

Samsung adds a lot of value with special features, but both of these super smartphones boast a similar lineup. From Bixby to augmented reality to video features like Live Focus, which blurs the background in real time, you’ll find plenty of options to try out. While most will be the same on both phones, only the Note has the S Pen, which lets you take notes and sketch, but also fun features like AR doodle, which lets you draw in 3D or draw on your friends’ faces. DeX mode, which lets you hook your phone up to a monitor so it can double as a desktop, works with both phones. Samsung announced some new Microsoft integrations at the Note launch, which let you do things like mirror your phone’s screen to a PC or laptop, but we’re guessing it’ll make its way to the S10 5G as well. S Pen brings victory to Note.

Price and availability

The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G officially retailed for $1,300 and was sold by Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint, although it is no longer in stock with these carriers. However, you can still find it at Best Buy and Amazon, albeit in limited quantities.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G also came in at a base price of $1,300, and, much like the S10 5G, is currently out of stock by vendors (although supported by Verizon and T-Mobile). The good news is that those who want this device can still find it online via Amazon while it’s still in stock.

We believe it’s definitely worth mentioning that each of these devices will likely only work with 5G on the network of the carrier you’re buying through due to the fact that their 5G networks depend on special technology and innovation.

Overall winner: Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G

Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5GJulian Chokkattu/Digital Trends

It’s an incredibly difficult decision because there isn’t a significant amount to separate these devices. The S10 5G includes a headphone jack, an exceptional front-facing camera, and a moderately more rounded design. The Note 10 Plus5G offers an S Pen, additional RAM, faster charging capabilities, additional screen space and enough space to accommodate a MicroSD card. We favor the Note 10 Plus5G in this contest, but know that it was an extremely close race. Ultimately, the decision between the two is entirely up to you, and you should choose one based on what you value most. At the end of the day, both are fantastic smartphones.
