Scientist captures video of NASA rocket launched into Alaskan Aurora

Scientist Vincent Ledvina shared a video of the aurora on Instagram that differs from most clips of the natural phenomenon shared on social media. How? This video shows a rocket launched by NASA in Aurora, Alaska. He added that he had waited a long time to record such a scene.

“Successful launch of NASA’s DISSIPATION rocket probe experiment from Poker Flat Research Range tonight. This was my view from Cleary Summit northeast of Fairbanks. This was my first rocket launch and I can safely say I was hooked! I will never forget this night,” Ledvina wrote.

An aurora probe launched Nov. 8 to “successfully capture data to understand how auroras heat the atmosphere and cause high-altitude winds,” reports a blog shared by NASA.
