While on the force, Scott had already been exposed to hate from local activists Emily Davis and Keith Rose, who shared a series of tweets from an account bearing the officer’s name. The tweet was about a video that went viral in 2015. It showed a McKinney, Texas police officer chasing teens at a pool party, knocking a bikini-clad teen to the ground, pointing a gun at two kids and throwing a barrel.
The officer in the video, Eric Casebolt, resigned immediately after the incident. White House officials called his actions “harmful” to police-community relations.
Scott and others connected didn’t see it the same way, according to the tweets. “The police tell you to comply, you comply!” said one. “This is typical of people who don’t listen to the police.”
In addition, the account with Scott’s name also contained transphobic comments. The tweet read: “Your whole family is sick and I can’t believe I won that award, in reference to Jenner’s Arthur Ashe Courage Award at ESPYS last year. The tweet misspelled Caitlyn Jenner despite the fact that Jenner identified herself as a woman.
But the account has since been deleted along with the tweets.
Twitter user @DOJSuedFerguson wrote in October 2016: “Scott Wooldridge will fit right in with Ferguson’s many racists.”
City spokesman Jeff Small wrote: “Although not an officer at the time, the concern raised by the account disclosure is now a personal matter. As it is a personnel issue, the ministerial investigation cannot be discussed as a legal issue.”
