Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League looks a lot like Marvel’s Avengers

During the February 2023 PlayStation State of Play, Rocksteady Studios showed off an extended gameplay trailer for the game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Cooperative game play, equipment system and support for live services are highlighted, all reminiscent of Marvel’s Avengers.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League – Official Co-Play | Games for PS5

The game takes place five years after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight. Brainiac has brainwashed heroes such as The Flash, Superman, Green Lantern and Batman to do his bidding. There’s a big focus on co-op multiplayer as Amanda Waller recruits four members of the Suicide Squad — Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot and King Shark — to take down the Justice League.

Developer Rocksteady took a closer look at how the gameplay will work. It’s mostly a third-person shooter that has a team of four jumping around town, shooting enemies and purple orbs. It contains six weapon classes, from shotguns to pistols. The gameplay clip highlights the shooting, but also fast movement as the anti-heroes jump over buildings and crash into enemy swarms.

Harley Quinn is the most acrobatic of the four characters, able to tackle between buildings. Deadshot can hover with his jetpack, while King Shark is a tank character that can help deal damage to enemies. Captain Boomerang has a gauntlet of speed powers combined with his boomerang that allows him to move in and out of combat quickly.

Those who want to play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League since it will be able to make it a single-player experience, with bots appearing as the other three characters. The game will have a power level called an equipment score for each character. As characters gain more powerful equipment, the equipment score increases. There’s also a battle pass that will only contain cosmetics, as well as post-launch content like new playable characters and missions. All this already makes fans draw parallels Marvel’s Avengers, another team-based superhero game with similar ideas. That game is currently in the process of ending support less than three years after launch.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League releases on May 26 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
