Susan Roces, a legendary Filipina actress who had a multi-decade career, has died at the age of 80, according to Philippine news reports.
Senator Grace Poe, Roces’ daughter, disclosed Roces’ death in a statement on Friday night.
“With great sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved Jesusa Sonora Poe, whom many of you know as Susan Roces. She passed away peacefully on a Friday evening, May 20, 2022, surrounded by love and warmth, with her daughter Grace, her nephews Joseph and Jeffrey and many of her family and close friends,” Poe said.
She was known as the “Queen of Philippine Movies” and appeared in over 130 films until her death.
She received five FAMAS Awards, including two for Best Actress.
Roces was one of 10 exceptional Filipinos honored by the Philippine Post Office with a stamp.
