Test your video game knowledge with these Wordle clones

By now, everyone on the internet knows what Wordle is, whether they’re glued to Twitter or not. It is a word-based puzzle that involves guessing a five-letter word in six guesses. Created by software engineer Josh Wardle and later acquired by The New York Times, Wordle has been wildly popular this year.

So popular, in fact, that it spawned an endless number of “inspired by” games and clones. Several of these variants revolve around video games, testing players’ knowledge of different franchises. If you’re looking to test your gaming expertise, here are some daily games to add to your rotation.

squirrel

Squirdle is a Pokémon-themed version of Wordle. With eight guesses, players start by guessing the name of the Pokémon. They get a series of clues that tell them things like if the Pokemon’s generation is correct and if the types are correct. Since his debut earlier this year, Squirdle has had over 100 riddle challenges and has seen a recent update from creator Sergio Esquival that added a streak tracking system.

heardle video game

The Heardle video game is a Heardle clone, a tribute to the original Wordle with an addition. Instead of guessing words, players must guess the song of the day in six tries based on the first sixteen seconds. The video game Heardle takes that idea and allows players to guess a randomly selected video game song. Past daily songs included music from Katherine, Bastionand super mario land.

Xenoblade Obstacle

With the recent announcement of a release date for xenoblade chronicles 3, it made perfect sense that at least one Xenoblade Wordle variant would appear. Xeno Heardle, like other remixes of the original Heardle, randomly selects a song from the Xenoblade Chronicle discography that players guess once a day.

a word for Fortnite fans take the u shape strength. Like Wordle, players have six tries to correctly guess a five-letter word, but all of the words are Fortnite-related. Released in early April, players are still sharing their daily Fortle attempts on Twitter.

Kingdom Hearts Obstacle

A new addition to the list of Heardle clones, KH Heardle gives players a random song from the Kingdom Hearts discography for them to guess. This one in particular gave me big challenges because I know where the song is going to be from, but it’s actually hard to name it. It’s the perfect game to keep you busy for a while. kingdom hearts 4 launch.

Posted in mid-April, Sonic Heardle has players guess a wide variety of songs found in Sonic titles ranging from sonic adventure right up Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. A detailed in-game explanation is available which goes on to discuss where Turquoise Coast’s creator draws songs from, including unused tunes and songs from other adaptations like the early ’90s animated series.

yordle

Yordle is named after a race of ghosts from League of Legends. This Word the clone makes the players guess the names League of Legends champions in six attempts. Originally shared on Reddit by creators Verevyt and uKruel, Yordle has a different number of letters each day to match the length of different champion names.

High Score Day is a Wordle-style game that goes beyond guessing words or songs from a video game franchise. Every day, players receive five screenshots from different video games. They have to guess the title of the game each screenshot comes from. According to the site, players get an extra life for each correct answer. If you hit wrong, you lose a life. Game titles listed in the login box range from Dreamcast games to titles like ghost of tsushima and Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
