One of the key aspects of storytelling is the relationships that develop between the characters. As the story progresses, enemies become friends and vice versa. Usually, the friendships that viewers want to stick with often appear in the form of a duo or a trio.
Anime is no exception, with infamous duos like Naruto and Sasuke naruto or Bakugou and Midoriya from my hero academy are some of the best examples of front and center relationships. But sometimes, for the sake of the story, characters that don’t interact at all are put together. These people can be protagonists or side characters, and while it may seem difficult for the audience to get along with each other, that works to an extent.

The two really work well together, although their different ethical codes make it very difficult for them to work together on a regular basis.
Yagami Moon & L Lawliet – The Book of Death
Even though they bicker almost all the time, they still share the screen with each other book Death, there are a few episodes where the two end up working together, and it’s one of the most bittersweet deaths in anime. This teamwork is unexpected when viewers have watched them compete against each other for so long and it works very well, at least until the end.
It’s clear from the plot they share and what follows, that they are truly equal to each other in a way that no other character in the world can.
